On 17 November 2021, the Bali Process Government and Business Forum (GABF) held a virtual Consultation and Innovation Session focused on addressing labour exploitation in the electronics sector. The session brought together governments, industry representatives, and civil society stakeholders to examine risks within global electronics supply chains and to identify practical solutions that promote ethical and sustainable practices.

The electronics sector is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing industries, but its complex and often opaque supply chains can leave workers vulnerable to exploitation, including forced labour and unsafe conditions. Discussions during the session highlighted the importance of stronger due diligence, transparent recruitment processes, and closer collaboration between governments, business, and international organisations to prevent abuse and ensure accountability.

Participants also shared emerging good practices, tools, and innovations that can help companies strengthen their supply chain oversight and compliance with international labour standards. The outcomes of the session have been carried forward for further discussion among Bali Process members, supporting ongoing efforts to address labour exploitation and align with global standards for responsible business conduct.
