RSO attends the Budapest Process Joint Working Groups Meeting
The RSO attended the Budapest Process “Joint meeting of the South East Europe and the Silk Routes Region Working Groups” on the 19th and 20th of May in a hybrid format in Ohrid, North Macedonia. The meeting was a follow-up discussion from the October 2021 joint meeting of the Budapest Process working groups and provided thematic panel discussions to suggest tangible actions that can be implemented in the short, medium, and long term.
The meeting discussed the issue of asylum; returns, readmission and reintegration of returnees; and the smuggling of migrants and trafficking of human beings. Some of the topics specifically addressed were the development of tools for front-liners to better understand asylum and international protection procedures, the status of returns and readmission agreements between countries of transit and destination, and the role of awareness-raising campaigns in the prevention of irregular migration along with how they can be improved.
