Overview of Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants - Delivered to Student at the University of the South Pacific
28 October 2020
The Covid-19 pandemic has created a number of unprecedented challenges, not only for the RSO but globally. With international travel being halted at the moment, the RSO has decided to engage with its member states in the virtual environment.
On October 28th 2020, the RSO was graced with the opportunity to lead an active discussion and virtually present at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji (USP). Dr. Marika McAdam – International Legal & Policy Advisor at the RSO – was able to engage with law enforcement officials who were part of USP’s post-graduate program on border security. Topics covered included trafficking in persons, the smuggling of migrants, as well as how responding to these crimes has been affected by Covid-19.
Following the well-received presentation, the RSO plans to deliver another presentation as a part of the USP’s Border Security programme in the beginning of 2021. The RSO looks forward to continuing to build the capacity of law enforcement officials in Fiji by strengthening their knowledge on human trafficking and people smuggling.
